Because dogs make the best models
Do you want to get some really good photographs of your favorite four legged friend? Don't want to spend a TON of money? Well you've found just what you need! Me. I started taking photos of dogs because it combined two of my hobbies: photography and a slightly unhealthy love of dogs. Know those people who can't walk down the street without stopping to say hi to dogs? Well, that's me. I once stopped to say hi to a dog while doing a half-marathon! And besides. Dogs make the best models.
My household is currently run by two four-legged furry, yet benevolent, dogs. Dixie is a lemon and white beagle; adopted in 2009 after she was found as a stray somewhere near Springfield, MA. We're not quite sure about her age, but at this point the best bet is between eight and ten. She may have lost a couple steps as she gets older, but she has become no less photogenic. We always joke that Dixie is more cat-like than dog-like - she likes her personal space and only deigns to be cuddled or pet when she is in the mood (i.e. cold.) On the flip side, Tucker, who we adopted in 2013 when he was six months old) is all dog; playful and cuddly, almost to a fault considering he weighs 75 pounds. Tucker was born in a rescue home and, scarily enough, his whole litter developed distemper. Despite that, every dog in the litter survived and at least Tucker has grown up to be a beautiful, healthy, and fit 2 year old.
My not-quite-dog is the newest addition to the family. Her name is Phoenix and was rescued by my brother, brought up from the south, in October of 2014 and was three months old at the time. She bears some resemblance to the Duck Toller retriever, but the current theory is that she is a mutt. We'll get more information when she grows up and her adult fur comes in. But no matter the breed, she is cute, energetic, and so sweet. But any photos I post of her standing still is something close to a miracle.
